Nutcracker: All Jazzed Up, A Sherwood Holiday Tradition in the Making

There’s something truly magical about the holiday season, twinkling lights, festive music, and of course, the timeless story of The Nutcracker. At Doty Performance, we’re thrilled to present Nutcracker: All Jazzed Up, our own reimagined version of the beloved classic. Blending cherished tradition with a fresh twist, this show brings together dancers ages 4 through high school seniors in a production that celebrates creativity, community, and the joy of performing.

A Classic Story with a Creative Twist

Our performance honors many of the traditional dances audiences know and love, Sugar Plum Fairy, Snow, Waltz of the Flowers, and more. You’ll see beautiful ballet and pointe work showcased throughout the production, giving dancers the opportunity to step into these iconic roles.

But this is Nutcracker: All Jazzed Up, after all… so we couldn’t resist adding a few surprises.

This year, you’ll experience:

  • Updated music in the Party Scene

  • A Hip Hop Battle between the Mice and Soldiers

  • Cotton Candy Can-Can dancers

  • Gingerbread characters

  • Macaroons added to the Land of the Sweets

  • Frost Fairies inspired by the Rockettes guiding Clara through the Land of Snow

These fresh elements bring new energy and sparkle to the timeless storyline, without losing the heart of the tradition.

Why This Experience Matters for Our Dancers

One of the best parts about our All Jazzed Up approach is that it allows students to be part of the creative process. Dancers get to explore different styles, ballet, pointe, hip hop, jazz, and contemporary, all within a single story. They learn how choreography, character choices, staging, and music work together to tell a story.

From the youngest 4-year-olds fluttering onstage to our seniors leading major roles, every dancer contributes to bringing this magical world to life.

Confidence. Creativity. Teamwork. And a memory they’ll carry for years.

We’re proud to host this performance at the Sherwood Center for the Arts, our charming local theater nestled in the heart of downtown Sherwood. It’s intimate, warm, and the perfect backdrop for a holiday performance that feels close to home.
